One of the WTF moments that led to our pivot to creating Immersions with nonprofit organizations, rather than curating sustainable experiences already serving tourists, was last year's drastic budget and staff cuts to national parks.
Actually, there were so many moments in this first year of tyranny in office, when we felt helpless and completely shocked by the drastic impacts on the environment and the people that cared for it. When signing petition after petition felt like not enough, and we were desperate to get organized and do more.
That’s why we are extremely proud to announce our latest Immersion, the Haleakalā Conservation & Zipline Immersion, in partnership with Skyline Hawaiʻi and Haleakalā Conservancy, an organization created to support the Haleakalā National Park through these budget shortcomings, so that this special and extremely rare ecosystem is protected no matter what.
On this Immersion, philanthropic-minded travelers get behind-the-scenes access to the restoration work done by the park rangers, as well as learn firsthand from the experts on the ground how the rare species native to this mountain are cared for and survive through difficulties. Guests partake in the work and plant trees below the park, at Skyline’s impressive restoration site before zipping over the forest they get to help restore.

With any of our Immersions, at least 50% of the cost goes directly into funding the nonprofit and its important conservation efforts, ensuring that the huge gaps in funding won’t mean that the imperative work has to fall short. This allows our guests to truly feel like part of the solution, rather than signing endless petitions or checks into a void that never feels quite like it’s doing enough.
We believe this is the future of travel and philanthropy. Tangible impact with a low footprint, to care for the places we visit long term, and actually leave them better than we found them.
To us, this isn’t a marketing tactic. It’s built into the foundations of our company, of our product, and of everything we stand for.
